Your Self-Care Routine for the Last Quarter: A Gentle Reset for Busy Women

There’s something about the start of a new month that feels like a fresh notebook page. As a busy woman juggling work, family, relationships, responsibilities, & maybe even a business, October can feel both exciting & overwhelming.

On one hand, fall is upon us!!! My favorite season has entered the chat & is acting like she has good sense. My pumpkin spice, football games, sweater weather, & beautiful colors are here!

On the other hand, we’re staring at the last quarter of the year wondering where the time went & how we’re supposed to fit everything in before December arrives. Additionally, my pockets are about to be thinner with the holidays coming up.

For years, I treated the last quarter like a race. I would create ambitious goals, overloaded to-do lists, & unrealistic expectations for myself. I wanted to finish the year strong, but instead I often finished it exhausted. Somewhere along the way, I learned that a successful self-care routine isn’t about doing more—it’s about being more intentional with the energy you already have.

As we enter the final months of the year, this is the perfect time to pause & check in with yourself.

  • What’s working?

  • What’s draining you?

  • What do you need more of?

I can say I overdid it way too many days this year. I’ve been more exhausted than any other time of my life. Top that off with Covid last week putting me on my 🍑 & outta commission for 3 days, & I have more proof that I needed to stop to smell the roses & take better care of myself more often.

Self-reflection doesn’t have to be complicated. Sometimes it looks like sitting quietly with your journal, brain dumping everything on your mind, & giving yourself permission to be honest.

One of my favorite self-care routine practices is creating a simple “energy audit.” Instead of focusing only on goals, I ask myself what activities, people, & commitments are filling my cup—& which ones are quietly emptying it. The answers are usually eye-opening. Many of us are carrying responsibilities we’ve outgrown simply because we never stopped to question them.

This last quarter isn’t about becoming a completely different person before January 1st. It’s about finishing the year feeling more grounded, present, & connected to yourself.

Small shifts matter. A few minutes of journaling, an earlier bedtime, a boundary you finally enforce, or a daily moment to breathe can make a bigger difference than another packed schedule.

As you begin this new month, remember that your self-care routine is not a reward for getting everything done. It’s the support system that helps you keep showing up for the life you’re building. Give yourself permission to move through this season with intention, grace, & a little less pressure. You deserve that.
