Busy Mom Burnout? The Power of a Self-Care Journal to Help You Hear Yourself Again
Have you ever walked into a room & forgotten why you went in there?
Now imagine doing that with your own thoughts.
That’s what life has felt like for me lately.
Between work deadlines, family schedules, trying to remember if I actually drank the coffee I reheated 3 times, & keeping everyone else’s lives moving forward, I’ve noticed something…
I stopped checking in with me.
Why Busy Women Stop Listening to Themselves
As busy women, we’re incredible at remembering doctor’s appointments, grocery lists, birthdays, permission slips, & who’s out of ranch dressing. But somehow, our own emotions get shoved into the junk drawer labeled, “I’ll deal with that later.”
Spoiler alert: later rarely comes. 👎🏽
That’s why I started using a self-care journal (& created) consistently—not because my life suddenly became peaceful, but because it didn’t.

How a Self-Care Journal Creates Space to Reflect
Journaling isn’t about writing perfect words or filling beautiful pages worthy of Instagram. Some days my entries are deep reflections. Other days they’re simply, “Today was a lot…& I deserve wine.” ✍🏾
Both count.
I’ve realized something powerful happens when I slow down long enough to write. The noise gets quieter. The mental tabs I’ve had open all day finally start closing. I remember what I actually think instead of only reacting to everyone else’s needs.
Reflection creates space. It reminds me that I’m more than my responsibilities.
The Unexpected Benefits of Journaling
As women, we spend so much time pouring into everyone around us that we sometimes forget our own voice still matters. Journaling gives that voice a seat at the table again.
It doesn’t solve every problem overnight. It won’t magically fold laundry or answer emails. (If it ever starts doing either of those things, please let me know immediately.)
But it does something just as important. It helps me notice my patterns. Celebrate small wins. Process hard days without carrying them into tomorrow. And maybe most importantly, it reminds me that I deserve the same compassion I give so freely to everyone else.
If you’ve been feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, or like you’re constantly running on autopilot, maybe you don’t need another productivity hack. Maybe you just need 5 quiet minutes & a pen.
Your thoughts are still there. Your dreams are still there. Your voice is still there. Sometimes it just needs a little room to be heard again.
One Simple Question to Ask Yourself Today
So today, give yourself permission to pause. Open your journal. Take one deep breath. Then ask yourself one simple question: “How am I…really?”
You might be surprised by the answer. And friend? That’s where healing often begins.
